The Portofino Beach Resort is built on 4.5 acres of land on Ambergris Caye, the largest of the Belize islands and includes 330 feet of seafront with a white powdery beach. As it is 6 miles from the town of San Pedro, the resort offers seclusion but that does not mean you are away from the action as this haven of privacy also offers adventures both in the sea and on the mainland.
Ambergris Caye is the largest of the islands that make up part of the second largest reef in the world and so is popular with divers and snorkelers but this resort’s location 6 miles from the main town of San Pedro means although you can enjoy all the adventures that the reef and the Caribbean Sea can offer, you have the privacy of being away from the crowds.
Although there are a variety of accommodations to choose from, all have air conditioning, flat screen TVs and mini-refrigerator. Your choice of where to stay includes Beach Cabanas which have thatched roofs, views of the sea and a shared porch with hammocks. Beachfront rooms are located on the first floor and so have unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea.
Treetop suites are located on the second floor and have large French doors opening up to the sea and a private balcony with hammocks as well as chairs and table where you can enjoy your meals. As the Colonial Suites are located below the Treetop Suits the views may not be quite so good but they still have a large private balcony and are ideal for larger groups. There are also VIP Suites and a Honeymoon Suite plus a four bedroom beachfront mansion.
Food & Dining
When it comes to dining at the resort, there is a choice between the Portofino Restaurant with its excellent choices of Euro-Caribbean cuisine and the Green Parrot Bistro on the outdoor terrace whilst the Green Parrot Bar is said to make the best Margaritas in the world.
The resort has its own beach spa which can allow you to have massages under its thatched roof hut on the beach or in the privacy of your own room, a fresh water swimming pool with a unique circular design, a concierge service and an impressive DVD library for when you just want to relax in your room.
Staff & Service
In the few short years that the resort has been open, it has already built up a reputation as having helpful, friendly and professional staff.
With the reef and the Caribbean Sea available to enjoy and the jungles and Mayan ruins of the mainland not far away, there is an abundance of activities to partake in. Perhaps you would like to spend a full day diving and snorkeling the famous Blue Hole and Lighthouse Reef or perhaps go trekking through the jungle to explore some caves or visit Mayan ruins but whatever you choose, the staff at the resort will gladly arrange it for you.
An ideal tour for the family is a day of fishing and snorkeling complete with beach BBQ. First fish for your lunch and whilst the guide BBQs the fish on a deserted beach, you can all enjoy some snorkelling.
