Described as “the best secret island on earth” Pelican Beach, South Water Caye is the location of the Pelican Beach Resort which can provide you with a private cottage overlooking the Caribbean as well as great food in an atmosphere designed to let you do as much as you want or nothing at all.
This idyllic island is 15 acres in size and is one of the few islands that actually sit atop Belize’s barrier reef, the second largest reef in the world. The resort itself is situated in three and half acres at the southern end of the island allowing guests to be able to just step into the water and snorkel among the coral and brightly coloured fish. The island is located 14 miles southeast of Pelican Beach’s sister resort located on the mainland close to Dangriga Airport and is reached by a 45 minute boat trip from there, passing Coco Plum, Man O War Caye, Twin Cayes and several other beautiful islands.
The choice of accommodations at the resort is between duplex cottages tucked amongst the trees and with shaded porches and birds-eye view rooms atop the main lodge. The 8 cottage units are dotted across the property and are spacious, simply and comfortably furnished each just a few yards from the beach. The rooms are all large and have east facing verandas with hammocks.
Food & Dining
Freshly prepared meals will allow you to sample a wide variety of different Belizean meals bit if you have any preferences, you can let the chef, who posts the menus daily, know. The meals are served on the deck where there are ample snacks and drinks available all day. The bar which is stocked with both local and imported drinks, will allow you to run up a tab until the end of your stay.
What other amenities could you need on an island paradise other than a bed at night and a hammock for during the cay but, if you so wish there are kayaks available to use for free and a selection of games to play in the library. There is a nature trail on the property and an impressive array of birds to see including Ospreys, Pelican and the ever impressive Frigate Birds.
